How to be German (in 50 easy steps) or Wie man Deutscher wird (in 50 einfachen Schritten).

This book by Adam Fletcher is worth reading for both Germans who would like to find out more about their own culture and habits as well as for any foreigner who knows someone German or just wants a laugh. The author has been living in Germany for a while now with his German partner and gives the reader a good insight into Germanhood. Whether it’s the stress of a German holiday or their strange airing habits (they even have special windows!), Fletcher manages to write a very true but always funny summary of “The Germans” and everybody can definitely learn something from this book. The best part though is the fact that the book is written in both English and German so it’s a perfect starter piece for beginners. English chapter first, then turn the book right round and read it in German (cheating is allowed, the English translation is only one turn away 😉 ). Alles klar?! Best to read while drinking Apfelsaftschorle!
