Think German Wales visiting Film Director: Hüseyin Tabak

Film Director Hüseyin Tabak will be taking part in a number of events and work shop in both Swansea and Bangor discussing some of his films (Deine Schönheit ist nichts wert & Das Pferd auf dem Balkon).

German Skills Training Day on Monday 23rd March

The Think Wales German network, Routes into Languages and Bangor University are delighted to announce a German skills training day for AS and A2 teachers and students of German at Bangor University on Monday 23rd March.

The day will include a special lab session on one of the films recommended in the WJEC German A-level curriculum (either Good Bye Lenin or Der Rote Kakadu or Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei or Crazy. You can vote for the one you would most like to study!), an exciting session on developing essay writing skills in German and an interactive translation session.

Interested parties should email Ruben Chapela (r.chapela@bangor.ac.uk) by Friday 27th February providing the following information:

Teacher (if any) who will be coming with the students:

Film Selected:

Lecturing staff will also offer special sessions tailored for German teachers on contemporary German film and culture and translation.

Please also state the name of the film you would like to focus the lab session around, and the most popular film will be chosen!

North Wales Launch Event

Thursday 18 September, Bangor University

This event is designed for students of German from Year 10 through to A2, and offers participants two workshops and two lectures on the language, history and culture of German-speaking Europe. The aim is to inspire learners of German with a variety of activities, and to build the foundations for an active Network. At lunchtime, a Teachers’ Forum will provide some informal discussion time to gather ideas for future events and to share good practice. Schools Conference

Monday 10 July, Swansea University

This event is for pupils and students from year 10 – A2 level who have an existing or potential interest in Germany. The conference will feature Wales MEP Jill Evans and a host of Swansea University academic staff, who will offer various interactive, informative and entertaining sessions on a variety of topics! There is no requirement for students to have knowledge of German beforehand and the event should serve to further inspire those that already do.
